So-San Tul

 

Definition:

So San Daesa is the pseudonym of a great monk (Choi Hyong Ung) (1520-1604) during Choson (Lee Dynasty). The 72 movements refer to his age (was 73) when he organized a corps of 5000 warrior monks with the assistance of his pupil Sa Myung Dang. The monk soldiers helped repulse the Japanese pirates who overran most of the Korean peninsula in 1592.

 

Details:

1, 3:

Slide to form a right rear foot stance while executing a middle guarding block with the forearm.

 

5-6 & 7-8:

Perform a high side block with the knife-hand and a middle punch in a fast motion.

 

10-11 & 14-15:

Perform a high side piercing kick (keep the position of the hands) and a high turning kick in a continuous kick.

 

19, 22, 37, 45:

High punch.

 

23, 25:

Slide to form a L-stance while executing an upset punch with the middle knuckle fist and bringing the side fist in front of the shoulder.

 

30-31 & 32-33:

High front block with the forearm and then execute a middle punch while shifting

 

38-40, 46-48:

Low front snap kick and two middle punches in a fast motion.

 

50, 55:

Slide while turning to form a L-stance while executing a low guarding block with a knife-hand.

 

52-53 & 57-58:

Execute a low block with the right knife-hand and a middle outward block with the left inner forearm and then a high punch in a continuous motion.

 

60, 66:

Slide forming a L-stance and execute a scooping block with the palm.

 

61, 67:

Shift maintaining a L-stance while executing a middle punch.

 

63, 69:

High side piercing kick (keep the position of the hands)

 

71-72:

Form a L-stance while executing a middle guarding block with a knife-hand followed by a high punch while forming a walking stance in a continuous motion.

So San Daesa est le pseudonyme d'un grand bonze (Choi Hyong Ung) (1520-1604) de Choson (dynastie Lee).  Le nombre de mouvements réfère à son âge quand, avec son disciple Sa Myung Dang, il forma en 1592 un corps de 5000 moines-soldats pour repousser les pirates Japonais ravageant la majeure partie des côtes Coréennes.
